You might have questions regarding massage treatments at the clinic. If you have queries, check out the FAQs below. We have the answers to your most pressing questions.
Will massage therapy benefit me?
Each therapeutic treatment is tailored to relieve pain, physical or emotional stress and any other discomforts you feel. The basic aim of the treatments is to improve circulation, posture, relieve pain, relax muscles and improve your range of motion.
How many times will I need to come for treatments?
That will depend on your particular requirements which can be determined in the initial consultation. But your body will let you know first. Some clients only need to undergo a few sessions to relieve their aches and pains. Clients who suffer from chronic pain may need proactive and preventative treatments.
How old do I have to be to receive massage therapy?
No age is too young for a massage treatment. The treatments are known to be affective on a growing fetus if the mother undergoes pre-natal massage treatments as well as senior citizens suffering from illnesses or muscular pain.
What part of my body will be massaged?
During the initial consultation your therapist will ask what you want to achieve with the sessions. You will also be asked to disclose any medical issues you may have had in the past as well as the part of the body where you feel discomfort or pain. The therapist will focus her attention on these areas and customize your treatment accordingly. Typically, a massage treatment includes areas such as the back, neck, legs, feet, hands, arms and shoulders.
Will my muscles be sore after the treatment?
That depends on how stiff they were prior to the treatment. However, most clients say that they feel relaxed and feel pain ebb away their aches or pains after their respective massage sessions. You may experience mild muscle soreness in intense massage treatments like deep tissue massage. Once your sessions are over you will have increased range of motion and feel more energized.
Can a massage actually relieve anxiety and depression?
Yes it can. Your body needs cortisol to fight or flee during stressful events. However, you cannot always fight or flee from a situation. As a result, your body stores the cortisol and doesn’t use it which can create problems. Massage treatments relieve pent up stress and hence lower cortisol levels. In addition, they also cause your body to produce more oxytocin, dopamine and serotonin; natural chemicals that your body uses to lower stress and stabilize your mood.
Is a massage safe for me if I am pregnant?
We have introduced a new pre-natal massage table that is specially designed to support moms to be. Our pre-natal massage sessions are carried out by a registered therapist and can be done during all trimesters. In fact, the treatments have proven to be beneficial for both mothers and their growing babies. We advise that you consult your healthcare provider before opting for a pre-natal massage.
I have never had a massage before. Should I avoid any food or drinks before it?
It is best that you don’t; have a full stomach right before your session. If you feel hungry, eat something light. Drinking water or non-alcoholic beverages is fine but its best that you don’t overdo it. In the end, it is your comfort that matters the most to us. Drinking water after the session is a good idea. It will help rehydrate you and make you feel less light headed.
What if I don’t like to be touched?
We run a very courteous service. It is not uncommon for our therapists to meet clients who feel apprehensive before their sessions. Most of our clients report feeling relaxed after a few minutes. The therapist will respect any reservations you have while ensuring that you stay comfortable throughout the whole session.
Your body will be covered with a sheet and you will only be asked to remove clothing that you are comfortable with. Only the area that the therapist will work on will be uncovered. You can undress before the session and dress after it in complete privacy as well.
